Frequently Asked Questions
How much does therapy cost?
My current fee is $175 for a 50-minute session, unless we have agreed on a different fee in advance. Discussing fees is an important part of the therapeutic relationship and ensures that you are able to receive consistent care. Within my practice, I value providing a space in which these discussions can be collaborative and take into consideration each client’s financial circumstances. In the case that unexpected financial hardship occurs, it is important to me that we discuss how to continue working together in order to avoid any disruptions in our work.
Do you accept insurance?
As an out of network provider, I do not bill insurance companies directly. Depending on your insurance plan, you may be able to receive reimbursement for out of network mental health services, however it is up to you to discuss this with your provider. For those seeking reimbursement through their insurance providers, I am able to provide a monthly superbill to you upon request which you can then submit to your provider for reimbursement directly to you. It should be noted that should you decide to utilize insurance coverage for psychotherapy services, there are some limits to confidentiality. Most insurance companies will require information such as the name of the patient being treated, dates of treatment, psychiatric diagnosis, and in some cases, psychotherapy notes. As a result of utilizing insurance, this will affect the extent of confidentiality that you might otherwise expect.
What types of services do you provide?
I provide psychotherapeutic services to individuals, adolescents, families, couples, and other non-traditional relationship structures. My approach is based heavily in emotion-focused therapy (EFT), relational psychotherapy, queer theory and mindfulness teachings. As a result, my approach focuses on using the therapeutic relationship as the basis for change. Additionally, I work with my clients to tap into their own emotional experiences and to observe their own emotions without judgment. From my experience, part of therapy also means learning how to feel and process emotions as they arise.
How long does therapy last?
Therapy goes on as long as you feel you are benefiting from it! I’ve worked with a variety of clients where some seek therapy for short-term or specific moments of crisis, however the majority of my clients I have worked with for years. Like any relationship, the therapeutic relationship takes time to build trust and rapport. It always fascinates me to see the ways in which my clients can grow and change over time, and how long-term therapy allows for deeper psychological work to take place. There is often a misconception that therapy only occurs during hard times. I like to challenge this belief, as I feel our successes in life deserve the same level of acknowledgment, if not more. Providing support to my clients through the ups and downs of life is something I feel truly appreciative to be involved with. Having a supportive professional who understand you and your history can really be such a valuable asset!
